NFL Recap: Denver Edge Struggling Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a close win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and specialist Wil Lutz provided the game-winning decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Seals Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets maintained possession with a opportunity to score a possible victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of calling on specialist Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with minus-10 passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was non-existent," Glenn commented after the game.
